Daily Herald | 'Continental Congress' unveils 'Articles of Freedom' in St. Charles
They're not necessarily liberals, conservatives or Libertarians.
Their uniting belief is that the government, namely federal but those of the states as well, has systemically violated the U.S. Constitution for decades.
And like the Founding Fathers more than 200 years ago, they believe the nation has reached a critical mass -- a situation so dire that it required an 11-day Continental Congress, spearheaded by the Queensbury, New York-based group, We The People Foundation.
The end result: a final version of "Articles of Freedom" drawn up and ratified by representatives from 47 of 50 states.
"Our purpose is to restore Constitutional governance. The federal government has gotten out of hand and strayed egregiously" from what the Founding Fathers intended, said Kenneth Lucier, a delegate from Minnesota and one 100 delegates at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles Saturday.
"Our purpose here is not to change the Constitution. We can't do that. We just want to hold our government accountable to the existing Constitution," Lucier said.
The group spelled out how it believes the government over the years has violated the Constitution when it came to: The Patriot Act; the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; federal income taxes; gun control laws; illegal immigration; the Federal Reserve; and other topics.
They plan to present the document to all members of Congress and the executive branch. If the government takes no action, they are prepared to "withdraw our financial support from the federal government."
In other words, stop paying taxes.
Marc Messina, the We The People Congress Wisconsin state coordinator, said the Founding Fathers held a Continental Congress in 1774 without guaranteed response from the English monarchy.
"They (the government) have not responded, so this is the next step," he said. "We're holding a Continental Congress to hold our government responsible to take action. There was nothing certain in the first Continental Congress. The only thing certain is if we take no action."
Members of the delegation streamed video, shot out e-mails and made on-the-fly updates for youtube.com to help get their message out.
They held tightly to the First Amendment language that says citizen have, in addition to freedom of speech, the press and religion, "the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
Edward Vallejo, a delegate from Arizona and U.S. Army veteran, said the courts have ruled that the people can petition the government all they want, but are not guaranteed a right to be heard or right to a response or answer.
"That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard in my life," he said.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Crashing a state dinner at the White House apparently takes a security breakdown as well as some kind of nerve.
The Secret Service is looking into its own security procedures after determining that a Virginia couple, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, managed to slip into Tuesday night's state dinner at the White House even though they were not on the guest list, agency spokesman Ed Donovan said.
President Barack Obama was never in any danger because the party crashers went through the same security screening for weapons as the 300-plus people actually invited to the dinner honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Donovan said.
Donovan confirmed the identities of the couple. The Washington Post, which first reported on their evening out, said the Salahis were well-known in the Virginia horse-country set.

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. - Call it Freedom of Speech. A billboard recently erected in Wheat Ridge compares President Barack Obama to a terrorist and questions his U.S. citizenship.
The billboard, located at 4855 Miller Road, shows two cartoonish images of Obama wearing a Muslim turban and reads "PRESIDENT or JIHAD?"
It also says "BIRTH CERTIFICATE - PROVE IT!" alluding to the conspiracy theory which claims Barack Obama was born in Kenya rather than Hawaii, which would disqualify him for the office of President.
The words "WAKE UP AMERICA! REMEMBER FT. HOOD!" appear on the bottom of the billboard.
The sign belongs to a car dealership.
"Since Fort Hood, I've had it," owner Phil Wolf told FOX 31 News Friday. "You can't suggest things. You can't profile. You gotta call a spade a spade."

Meeting Nov. 11-21 in St. Charles, Ill., delegates from across the nation gathered to publicly debate the government's "abuses of the Constitution and to consider practical strategies which can bring about compliance with our Freedom documents, not only in our government at all levels, but in our individual lives."
The delegates produced Articles of Freedom which assert "the time has come to reassert our God-given natural rights and cast off tyranny."
"Let the facts reveal – the Federal Government of the United States of America, which was instituted to protect the rights of individual citizens, instead – threatens our life, liberty and property through usurpations of the Constitution; and emboldened by our own lack of responsibility and due diligence in these matters, has exceeded its mandate, and abandoned those founding principles which have made our nation exceptional," the document declares.

A new billboard off of Interstate 70 in Missouri provides a short “citizens guide to REVOLUTION of a corrupt government” and issues a call to “PREPARE FOR WAR.”

This billboard replaces one that warned that the socialist “Obama-Nation” is “coming for you.” It’s unclear who the owner of the billboard is, but the first one was the work of a “Missouri businessman.”
While it’s unclear who owns it, the Lafayette County Republican Central Committee seems to endorse it.

Deal says he has “no reason to think” that President Barack Obama is not a legal U.S. citizen but enough questions have been raised that he plans to write a letter to the president asking him to produce a birth certificate showing he was born in the United States.
“I have looked at the documentation that is publicly available and it leaves many things to be desired,” Deal said in an interview Friday.
Deal’s statement came a day after he noted in an online chat that he would join other U.S. House members in writing the president and asking that he release a copy of his birth certificate.

(lubavitch.com) In a drastic measure adopted to combat the swine flu virus, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko ordered a three-week closure of Ukraine's schools.
"From today, all the school establishments in Ukraine -- be they private or public -- will be put on three weeks of holiday," she told her cabinet in comments carried on Ukrainian television last Friday.
Rabbi Shmuel Kaminzki, Chief Rabbi of Dnepropetrovsk, told lubavitch.com that in compliance with these orders, beginning this week, “all of the Ohr Avner Chabad schools in Ukraine have been closed.”
With 35 Ohr Avner schools and some 50 kindergartens in the networks, there are about 1000 children in the Chabad school network.
The measure, which also includes a ban on public gatherings, comes after 30 people have died of unexplained causes in The Ternopil region in Western Ukraine.

UPDATE: Obama now speaks on the tragedy. The President at a previously scheduled meeting with Native American groups and changed his speech in mid-course to talk about what happened. He was careful not to overstate the numbers of people harmed and asked that we all keep the men and women of Fort Hood in our thoughts. He then quickly exited the stage.
UPDATE: The gunmen were confirmed as military officers during a press conference reported on CNN's "The Situation Room".
UPDATE: 12 killed according to CNN's Barbara Starr and now 31 injured, all U.S. Military personnel.

This is covered on television and just happened by what apparently and reportedly is an upset set of of soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas, near Waco, Texas. There are reports of up to three gunmen, one already arrested, two others the subject of a search. 7 are dead and 12 are injured.
Fort Hood is on lockdown now; the 55,000 people not allowed to go anywhere.
There was a graduation ceremony going on at the time of the shooting, according to MSNBC and CNN. The shooting happened at the solidier readiness facility on the base.
The gunmen were carrying M-16s according to General Russell Honore U.S. Amry (Ret.) on Rich Sanchez Show on CNN just three minutes ago. Fort Hood is one of the largest U.S. Army installations in the country.

Fort Hood is next to Killeen, northeast of Austin; home to about 5,000 active duty officers and 45,000 enlisted; with approximately 9,000 civilian employees.In August, there was a shooting at Ft. Hood that left Spc. Ryan Richard Schlack, 30, of Oshkosh, Wis. dead and Fort Hood Spc. Armando Ray Baca was taken into custody. There was another shooting in August, and another in October.
This story is developing and much of the information beyond the deaths and injuries, and that the gunmen may be solidiers, is not well-known.

It is uncertain whether his Satan worship was a gag or something he truly embraces, but Black has previously made a point of offending Christians - going so far as to appear as Jesus in a video protesting Proposition 8, the California constitutional amendment that defined marriage as between a man and a woman.
"I was mortified when Jack Black led everyone in a prayer to satan. It was no joke," said Samantha Taylor of California. "The audience held hands and did it. I was a fan, but not anymore."
Black made his grand entrance wearing extra muscles and a battle axe.
